We are using the information delivered to the user via the Exchange 2013 UM “Allow Voice Mail Preview” to assist with our compliance tracking. When this feature is set in the UM Mailbox Policy, it is not enforced, and the users still have the option to remove this function in OWA. Is there a way to enforce this on users, so they cannot turn this option off?

Updating UM English language packs
We are getting ready to install Exchange 2013 CU6 in our Prod environment and I see there is a CU6 language pack as well. I tried to install the new language pack in our Dev environment, that already has Exchange 2013 CU6 installed, but when I try to run the CU6 language pack it says "The Unified Messaging language pack for English (United States) is already installed. If you're trying to reinstall or update this language pack, uninstall the existing version first."
My question is if I even need to update the pack. My thoughts were that this will update the English files to give us better transcription, etc. Since we only use the English pack, I am hesitant on uninstalling it and it also removing the configuration we have setup in UM.
Cannot set call router settings
Hi guys,
I am busy setting up Exchange UM on our Exchange 2013 servers for Lync 2013 integration.
I am trying to run the set-IMCallRouterSettings command but keep getting this error:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Set-UMCallRouterSettings -DialPlans "Triple4 Cloud" -UMStartupMode TLS
Couldn't perform the operation because objects of type
'Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.SystemConfiguration.SIPFEServerConfiguration' couldn't be found on

It seems that the object does not exist in AD.
Wonder if anyone can help?

Auto attendant default audio prompt
Apply UM Certificate failure, states to set server into Dual/TLS mode. Server is in Dual Mode.
I have added a second Exchange 2013 server into my environment, I set up a DAG. Data is replicating and you are able to log into either server.
I have associated the UMdialplan with the new server.
Every time I attempt to set the certificate for the UM service, it fails. I get the error that it is currently in TCP and needs to be set to Dual or TLS. It is set to dual, I have even restarted the server since that change was made.
Anyone have any guesses?
Thanks,

Maintaining UM features when moving mailbox to Office 365
Hello,
In a hybrid Exchange implementation when Exchange 2010 is on premise and Office 365, where on Exchange on premise users are UM / Voicemail enabled.
When a user mailbox is moved from Exch on premise to Office 365, does it keep all UM & VM features and customisation ?
Thanks for your help,

Enabling an auto answering rule transfer without prompt
Hi guys -
I'm expecting this isn't possible, but I have a scenario where I need all unanswered calls from Lync to be redirected to the front counter staff (external number). It's not possible to configure this default call forwarding functionality within Lync en-masse... unfortunately.
Seemingly, the only solution that provides default call forwarding on unanswered calls from Lync is when Exchange's Unified Messaging is enabled. Voicemail however is the exact scenario this customer is trying to avoid (they hate voicemail, go figure).
I have been experimenting with call answering rules within UM, and have managed to have the unanswered call route to UM, then the personal attendant picks up, and prompts the user to have the call transferred to reception (Push 1, Push 2 etc....). This is OK, but I'd prefer the transfer just to be automatic.
Question: Is it possible to have the Exchange UM personal AA automatically forward the call to an external phone number (front counter), without any prompting for a keypress?
Can anyone else think of a way to have the calls automatically forwarded from Lync -> UM -> external phone number without any user prompts?

Editing the Unified Messaging Form
I have a customer that uses Lync 2013 in a VDI scenario, with the Lync VDI plug in deployed.
An issue that arises with using the Lync VDI plug in and VDI is the ability to play audio VIA the headset. So when a user recieves a unified messaging notification either by email or by the Lync client Voicemail Tab. The user plays it and it plays via the redirected speakers of the Thin Client. Since the Virtual Machine does not know about the headset since the VDI plug in is in control of the headset, A user cannot choose to play the audio via headset without breaking the Painring process of the Lync VDI plug in and VDI channel.
So my thought is to be able to disable the windows media player in the Form of the Unified messaging notification email. And to enable a hyperlink to cliick to call the Unified MEssaging Via Lync.
i know there is a play on phone selection. But im wondering if its also possible to add the option to click to call the voicemail.
Would this be possible?
Unified Messaging can't save the PIN for mailbox. There was an error accessing the mailbox using EWS. The requested operation failed with ResponseCode "ErrorInternalServerError".
Hi,
I am facing the following error while enabling Unified Messaging for new users.
Unified Messaging can't save the PIN for mailbox 'user@domain.com': There was an error accessing the mailbox using EWS. The requested operation failed with ResponseCode "ErrorInternalServerError". Details : An internal server error occurred. The operation failed..
We are running Lync and all our users are voice mail enabled. The problem came after we added new mailbox servers.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Exchange 2013 UM and Avaya Session Manager 6.2 integration- SIP dial plan only supported
I have read through the config notes listed on the MS website. They specify a telephone extension dial plan. The problem is that Exchange 2013 UM won't use that kind of a dial plan. It only uses a SIP URI dial plan. I tried creating a telephone extension dial plan and it errors upon save.
Anyone have this working and if so, how? details please?
Thanks.
OWA "Voicemail" page - poor design!
I'm not sure who designed this page (OWA - Options - Phone - Voicemail tab), but by putting a huge Rules box and a floating Save button, you've effectively hidden the fact that many configurable options for voicemail are present if the user simply scrolls
down. Most users won't even realize these settings exist on this page.
Terrible, terrible design.
Custom Auto Attendant Prompts through TUI not working for users who migrated from 2010 to 2013
In Exchange 2010, we started using unified messaging and set up Auto Attendants. We setup a admin role/RBAC for people of a security group to be able to update the message on the auto attendants. They have the UMPrompts assigned role. All of this is working great in 2010. We have now migrated to 2013, and the users who were migrated from 2010 to 2013 can no longer update the messages through TUI. Newly created 2013 users can and are assigned the EXASCT same permission as the users who have been doing this for well over a year on 2010. When they call the AA and press #,* they are asked to provide their extension, after doing so the system tells them that extension is not correct. and asks for the extension again. Newly created users with the same permissions get prompted for their PIN and can log in and change the message just fine.
Confirmed Bug? anybody else having this issue?
What would be different for this process between a user who was migrated from a previous version like 2010 compared to a newer user who has only ever existed on 2013?
Voicemail Forwarding Scope
Hi Folks. We've recently migrated from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 CU7.
Previously, our users report that they could use the Voice Access feature to forward a message to anyone in the organization by saying "Forward Message to xyz". After the upgrade, they are limited to users in their personal contacts.
I suspect this is a scoping issue, but can't find where to define the scope.
Thoughts?
Thanks
MSExchange OAuth warning event every 30 minutes
I'm noticing in the Application event log every 30 minutes I get a warning from MSExchange OAuth Event ID: 2008. When retrieving metadata from the url 'https://lync-fe.domain.com/metadata/json/1', different certificate(s) have been found.
The only thing we did in Lync is renew the certificates so our internal CA would regenerate them in SHA256 keys. I checked on the Exchange server and our domain root CA cert for our SHA1 and our new SHA256 root certs are in the Trusted root store for the computer.
I checked in Outlook Web Access and I can still sign into Lync and see presence information. I would just like to eliminate this warning that is in the logs every 30 minutes and ensure a healthy deployment.
Thank you!
Integrating NEC SV8100 with Exchange Unified Messaging
Dear Marum,
I need your below suggestion on this
The phone system we have is an NEC SV8100 and do not have NEC UM8000 voice mail system.
My requirement is i'd like to be able to do is get voice mails to be received and played through the inbox in Outlook
Currently We have Exchange 2010 without UM role .
Currently all users have their NEC deskphones and controlled by SV8100
Can you please give me the possibilities of integrating with our Exchange Server so that end users can receive their voice mails in Outlook.
1) Can i integrate by introducing the UM role to accept the voice messages from NEC SV8100 . If so can you please provide the steps or the document that guides me.
2) Can i integrate by introducing UM8000-Mail Solution to receive emails on my inbox .If so can you please provide the steps or the document that guides me.
Or if there is any other options for end users to receive their voice emails only in their mailbox would also be fine
Your response is highly appreciated.

View profile picture of external users
Hi all,
Have been reading around and seems like that if a user photo is uploaded thru AD (with external tool or vbs script),then external wont be able to see profile picture (thru Lync). So far we have been using Set-UserPhoto and external (O365 or on prem)can still not see our users profile picture.
The rest is working fine (meet, chat, video),but profile picture part is not working.
What is the workaround other than using Lync,OWA or sharepoint?
Is it a no go at all?
thanks!

No UM dail plan - Missed Call notification
Hi Everyone,
We are in the progress to migrate to Exchange 2013. UM role is enabled on our servers, services are running, however, there is no Dial Plan set up. All the users are already on Lync 2013 with voice. I have no details to that as it is managed by a 3rd party
vendor. There are no UM mailboxes enabled.
In such cases what happens when someone has a missed call in Lync?
As far as I know, missed call notification is set up in the dial plan.
(Set-UMMailboxPolicy -identity MyUMMailboxPolicy -AllowMissedCallNotifications $true)
Will users get the notification since the services are running and no policy has been set up to prevent it or is it disabled by default. Is it maybe a moot point as a dial plan is required to be able to handle such a feature?
Secondly, if it is not set up in Exchange UM, can Lync 2013 somehow still send these notifications?
Thank you for your thoughts,
Best regards,
Szabolcs
