Remove Unified Messaging in Exchange 2013

Hi,

Is Unified Messaging required? We have no need for it, out PBX does a great job on its own. If it is not can we remove the components or disable them?

Thanks,

Peter

Allow users to leave longer voicemail

$

I've got a user who gets especially long voicemail messages.  These vmail messages can be up to 3 minutes long.  It appears the default in my system (Exchange 2010 UM) is 1:45 seconds.

That seems quite long to me.  But, I'm wondering if I can create a rule for just this one vmail box allowing longer messages.

Can anyone think of a way to do this?  Also, are there any other 'timeouts' I need to worry about like how long you can be in the system without any input.  Say I'm just talking and not pushing any buttons will it hang up on me due to inactivity.

Thanks.

Exchange 2013 - UM - Shared Mailbox

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a way around to add voicemail to a shared mailbox instead of a user account.  I know in Exchange 2010 you were able to but with Exchange 2013 you seem not to be able to

Unified Messaging DR - Auto-Attendent Greetings

Recently implemented Exchange UM and getting ready to do our first DR since that implementation.  We use quite a few auto-attendent greetings and wonder the process for ensuring they are recovered (i.e.; where the files are "stored" once they are put into UM or do they stay where they are originally stored on the server?

Exchange Um co-existence Exch 2007/2010 and Exch 2013

First off, I will apologize for cross posting. This was originally posted in a Lync forum, but I think it might be more of an Exchange question. ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d040894d-a09f-46ae-ad1c-adcc82d3a944/exchange-200720102013-um-coexistence?forum=ocsvoice )

We currently have an Exchange 2007/2010 environment in production along with Lync 2010 (UM provided).
I have installed a number of Exchange 2013 server and will be migrating ( over a LONG time ) to the new system.
In the meantime, I need to have all services co-existent across all three Exchange versions.

It looks like I have everything working now except UM for Lync 2010.
I tried adding the Exchange 2013 servers into the existing 2007/2010 dial plan and am having issues.

Here is what i did.
( Following the steps on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn169227(v=exchg.150).aspx )

My actions, step by step, following that article.
- Step 1 – Done
- Step 2 – Did nothing. No custom announcements
- Step 3 – Certificates set
- Step 4 – UM Startup set on CAS
- Step 5 – UM startup set on MB
- Step 6 – Noting done. Dial plan already exists
- Step 7 – Nothing done. UM IP gateways already configured
- Step 8 – Nothing done, No hunt group needed
- Step 9 – Nothing done, UM Auto Attendant already configured
- Step 10 – Nothing done. UM Mailbox Policies already  in place
- Step 11 - Nothing done. Wanted to verify UM still worked for 2007/2010 MB users before testing Exch 2013 users
- Step 12 – Same as step 11
- Step 13 – Nothing reasoned that Lync is pulling UM information from AD
- Step 14 – Nothing. Leaving in co-existence
- Step 15 – Nothing. Leaving in co-existence

Waited an hour for replication and found that Lync now fails to send voice mail to my Exch 2007/2010 users. (did not test 2013 users)

Lync fails to send calls to voice mail, giving me events 45024 and 44022 on the Lync FE stating that Lync could not connect to the Exch 2013 MB servers and the attempt to connect to UM failed.

I dis-associated the dial plan from the Exch 2013 CAS and MB servers, waited an hour, and VM started workign again for my 2007/2010 users.

Does ExchUCUtil.ps1 need to be rerun on the Exchange 2013 servers?
This utility creates the UM IP Gateway. Does it create for Exchange in general, or does it create it for specific versions of Exchange?
In the Exchange 2013 EAC, I enter the Unified Messaging / UM IP Gateways screen and see the UM Ip Gateway links that are in use for by Exchange 2007/2010 and was hoping that that would suffice for Exchange 2013.

Is there anything else I missed?

If I do need to run ExchUCUtil.ps1, and after reenabling the dial plan in Exch 2013 VM fails. How does my backout plan change? Do I need to run ExchUCUtil.ps1 on one of my legacy Exchange servers again?

Thanks!
 Tom

Exchange 2010 UM and Lync 2010 Integration - Certs .. and going to 2013

$

1) Is there a requirement that the certificate assigned to the UM service have the subject name (common name) of the server for Exchange 2010 SP3 to Lync 2010 integration... and upgrading into Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 integration.

For example, does the cert assigned to the UM service need to be UMserver.domain.com for the Common Name..

2) Can this be from an internal CA that's trusted by both Exchange and Lync (same domain)

I ask b/c the "New Exchange Certificate" wizard is telling me that "A public certificate is required if you're using Unified Messaging with Office Communications Server" -- I'm assuming that this ONLY means OCS... not Lync?

3) I have 2 UM Servers as well.. and the wizard is creating a UM cert that contains both FQDNs.. is creating 2 certs, one for each FQDN, the best practice.

Exchange 2013 UM on-prem-hybrid with Office365

$

design:

Exchange 2013 deployment on-prem including UM being used for UM for users.  Domain and Exchange are set to companyA.net

companyA.com is set up in O365 for email\calendars etc.

ADFS and DirSync already configured to O365.

Available UPN's in AD  are already companyA.com and companyA.net.

Plan:

Setup hybrid so some users can have mailboxes on-prem and others on O365.

Have companyA.com be the primary smtp address

Question:

1)  The speech attendant part of UM on prem is a non-negotiable requirement.  could the mailboxes be on O365 and still work correctly?

Other considerations:

1) Lync 2013 on-prem is deployed for all features including Enterprise voice.  Presence, calendars, and voicemail from exchange required.

Need to have the MWI and calendaring\presence work.

Voice Enabled UM is too sensitive

Hi there,

I have just moved from having an on-premise Exchange 2007 server with Lync 2010, running Enterprise Voice and using UM for our Auto Attendant. We now have Exchange Online with Office 365 and Lync 2013 on-premise, again using the Auto Attendant in UM. This is working insofar as people are able to transfer calls, however we're finding that a lot of our callers are struggling with the voice prompts - in particular if there is any background noise or if they are calling from a mobile, the auto attendant will have a fit and eventually disconnect them.

Is there a way that we can turn down the sensitivity so that it only picks up speech, and not background noise, heavy breathing etc?

Cheers,

James

Integration with Cisco Call Manager?

$

We have Cisco VOIP phones and we would like to continue managing calls with Cisco Call Manager.  We currently have voicemail on Cisco Unity.  We currently have Exchange 2010, but plan to start using Exchange 2013 soon.

However, we would like to migrate voicemail service from Cisco Unity to Exchange Unified Messaging and also want to take advantage of most of the voicemail-related features of UM such as voice to text sent to email, voice mail waiting indicator light on the phones and sending voice mail audio attachments to email.

Is Exchange 2013 Unified Messaging compatible Cisco phones that are managed by Cisco Call Manager?

We have 500 users and 2 Exchange 2010 servers (1 CAS and 1 Mailbox Server).  We now have a few Exchange 2013 licenses available in addition to our existing 2010 licenses that are already used on our existing 2 servers.  Can we keep the 2 existing Exchange 2010 servers as they are and create a new Unified Messaging server on  Exchange 2013 in the same environment or do we need to upgrade all the 2010 servers to 2013 if we use Unified Messaging on 2013?

Cannot remove dial plan on old 2007 UM server

I'm in the process of finalizing the migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013. At the moment trying to remove an old 2007 UM Server.
With the following command I tried to remove the server from the dial plan:
Set-UMServer -Identity Ex2007UM -DialPlans $null

But the following error is shown:
WARNING: An unexpected error has occurred and debug information is being
generated: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Set-UmServer : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

The same error is shown when using the the Exchange console to remove the server. I've also tried 'Set-UMService' in the Exchange 2013 shell but it just return: You can't change the dial plans of 'EX2007UM' (an Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging server) using an Exchange 2013 server. You must run the cmdlet on an Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging server.
I made sure the LegacyPromptPublishingPoint in the dial plan is empty and the object states ExchangeVersion: 0.10 (14.0.100.0)

Anything else that I can try?

Unable to record Call Answering Rule message

I'm unable to get any Call Answering Rules to record and play a custom message and just get the mailboxes standard greeting.

When I create the rule I can click the button for it to call me and then lets me record a message, but unlike Exchange 2010 in 2013 it just says abour recording a greeting rather then the call answering prompt message you get in 2010.

I have seen http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/158/t/185191.aspx but there was no answer as to when it would be released.

How to leave voice mail for a group instead of a user in Auto Attendants

$

I created a new UM auto attendant which works great.  Is there any way that callers can leave a voicemail to a group of users that have their Unified Messaging option enabled.

In the Key mapping entry option that is part of 'UM Auto Attendants properties', I can only leave a voice mail for a user.  I want to know is there a way to leave a voice mail for a group of users. (ie: distribution list).

By leaving a voice mail to a group, each user would receive the same voice mail.

Thanks

hi

i have configure the auto attendant, and everything work good ,but my message is , welcome to ....... if you know the extinction dial it now or press 1 for help

my problem is that if the voice command is disabled , the user cannot press the extinction because he have to press # before ,

and i don't want it like this , i want the user to press the extinction direct

and if i enable the voice commands its work and the user can type the extinction direct ,

but if there is any small voice in the room , the AA think it's a command and says sorry we cannot help you with this command ,please call back later

is there any solution to dial the extension direct without enable the voice commands ?

i don't care about the voice command i don't need it

thanks and regards

how can I determine these failed rejected calls, and what the word "call" means? voice mail, missed call? knowing that I have lync reporting service installed but I don't know if it can help since the UM is an exchange server.

Thank you
